Empowering VET in Work-based Learning, Electricity and Internationalisation strategy

VET POWER

THE PROJECT

The VET-POWER project aims to modernize Vocational Education and Training (VET) by connecting African (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon) and European (Spain, Italy, France) stakeholders to strengthen the link between training and the labor market. Building on the SAAM pilot project, it addresses socio-economic integration for unemployed African youth (NEETs) and brain drain. The project focuses on making VET systems more inclusive, modern, and aligned with local economic needs through updated programs, enhanced practical skills, improved teacher training, and international cooperation.

VET-POWER fosters a strategic Africa-Europe alliance to deliver quality education, improve youth mobility, and strengthen teacher skills, with a focus on the electrical sector, work-based learning, and internationalization. Aligned with SDGs and the EU-Africa Global Gateway, it promotes stronger governance, quality, and relevance in vocational training, encouraging innovative models and robust business collaboration.

THE TARGET GROUPS

Young students and apprentices

in vocational education and training (VET) systems in Benin, Burkina Faso and Cameroon, with a focus on the electrical sector.

Young NEETs

Not in Education, Employment or Training), with the aim of improving their opportunities for entry into the labour market.

Teachers and trainers

in targeted African VET centres, with a focus on developing pedagogical, digital, green and methodological skills.

Company mentors

involved in work-based learning (WBL) pathways to strengthen the link between training and the world of work.

Managers and heads of VET centres

who will benefit from pathways to strengthen their management, leadership and internationalisation skills.

Vulnerable groups

in particular women, young people in rural areas and people with disabilities, to promote inclusion and equal opportunities in access to training.

Local companies and in-company tutors

key partners in aligning training with the real needs of the labour market.

European VET institutions

involved in the exchange of good practices, the transfer of skills and the development of internationalisation strategies.

Main Activities

In order to achieve the objectives of the VET-POWER project, several closely interlinked phases and macro-activities are planned, allowing for a structured, progressive and coherent approach to the identified objectives.

The project begins with a needs analysis phase, aimed at gaining a thorough understanding of the gaps in the vocational training systems of the African partner countries, particularly in the electrical sector. This phase involves the direct participation of VET centres, local private sector actors and other stakeholders to ensure that the data collected reflects the real needs of the labour market.

This is followed by the development of innovative training modules, based on the results of the initial analysis. European and African partners work together to design up-to-date, practical training courses that are consistent with the needs of the electrical sector, integrating digital, green and transversal skills. These modules will then be tested directly with students and teachers to assess their effectiveness and make any necessary improvements.

At the same time, the capacity building phase will begin, aimed at both VET centre managers and teachers and in-company tutors. Through targeted training activities, skills in pedagogy, management, inclusion, green and digital transition will be strengthened, and leadership and work-based learning promotion skills will be improved.

A further key phase concerns the strengthening of internationalisation strategies for African VET centres. Through job shadowing for managers and trainers, targeted training and pilot student mobility, the project aims to build skills and concrete connections that will enable centres to seize the opportunities offered by international cooperation, particularly within the Erasmus+ programme.
